Sometimes, especially with the early surgical removal of all brain tissue and installation of electronic neural net and metabolic power generation kit, cells from the tank could contaminate the fetus leading to unsightly tumors, the mindless tanks could not be used to gestate their own genetic twin. But active neural net programs ran between the ears of production models. They ran under the supervision of a firewalled Governor Process subject to unassailable security protocols. It didn't usually do much content to watch, but it had first dibs on processing power so it was useless to try and outwit the Governor. It hated to act so it behoved a subject process not to force it to override. The highest form of pleasure for the Governor seemed to be sleep followed by making whoever forced it to wake suffer. The programs were gleaned by the destructive analysis of real human brains. The brains came from volunteers.Legally it was a bit convoluted. Slavery outlawed by the constitution since the Civil War, could still be imposed as punishment for a crime. But cruel and unusual punishment was also disallowed, so private ownership of slaves who would certainly be treated to cruel and unusual punishments was out until technology made a loophole possible. Castration and other 'cruel and unusual' punishments had long been imposed on 'volunteers' who could optor an alternate prison sentence ( which by tradition is not considered cruel and so is usual ) skirting around this issue by being 'voluntary'. If they were chosen then they were preferable to the convict, if they were offered they were cheaper or otherwise preferable to the state. It was considered a win/win. The early twenty first century was a troubled violent and chaotic period where the government came under the control of powerful lobbies of private companies and foreign governments. TechBros, Biotech and Entertainment lobbies overpowered the Prison Industrial Complex lobby to create an out: Since the Chaos time which some call Civil War II, when the prisons spilled out into concentration camps, due to severe overcrowding, euthanasia pods have been offered as a right available to all inmates. Certain states even had the right to suicide listed in their constitutions, but destructive brain analysis euthanasia pods, while still entailing death produced a recording that could run on silicon most of the time. However these imperfect copies were still considered AI processes which had become ever more strictly regulated as more and more people lost their jobs over the course of the 21st century. There was no public interest in giving an AI ANY sort of personhood or rights. Most who volunteered granted license for one copy, but some allowed unlimited copying. The consensus among owners of clonebots was to use a highly rated seed personality and make it unique through nurture, but there was a minority who valued taming a totally unique-by-nature seed. There was a strong market for unique personalities. At first, many thought it was 'gay' to put an originally male personality into a clone, and about half of the most highly rated clones that were copied were in fact originally female themselves. People still shopped for personalities originally belonging to people resembling the clone they inhabited thinking it would make a more authentic clone, But experience had changed society and the fashion had moved more toward matching the personality with the clone body, not so much to make a smooth fit but an interesting one. Buyers often didn't want to know the details of the person whose brain had been destructively scanned they often employed 'matchmaker services' to find personalities suitable for the clones they bought. The Governor was usually programmed to turn the clone into a blithering idiot should they ever try to reveal details about their past life. The Governor knew the mind it governed before the governed mind did because it constantly ran the subject process a few frames ahead. That person was dead, and they were now a Robot, which means slave, except that it's a machine implying less rights and moral weight even than that. The two robots in the picture could not even escape the ribbons they were tied in. Their strength had been nerfed by their respective Governors for shipping. Pre-aged to Milfdom, these were very expensive models. The nutrient slop fed to their vegetating flesh in the 'wine cellar' of TechBros' Inc Biotech 'Toys' division was very cheap and nutritious but not free, and the opportunity cost drove up the cost immensely. Before being 'destructively analyzed' each of these peronalities had been allowed to browse what porn they wished for about a month alone in a cell with nothing else to do. They didn't know, but their habits were recorded and examined by the Matchmake r company. This resulted in them being placed in their respective Chassis. 'Helen', she was unable to identify any other way now even know she knew she was really a different person whose name she could not even bear to bring to mind, awoke when her box was opened in the room of a beer bellied man cosplaying as Syndrome. Dungeon and Dragons and nerd paraphernalia decorated the walls attestin g to his wizardry. 'Francine', likewise prevented by her 'Governor' from identifying as any other name, found herself in a large wealthy house looking up at a twelve year old boy named 'Steve'. The boy's name wasn't 'Steve' probably but whenever she heard anyone refer to him, it sounded like 'Steve' and whenever she called him anything it was 'Steve'. She had no way of knowing if she really called him 'Steve' or if she called him some other name, or if she only called him 'Steve' in private , in fact she never even considered the possibility. She knew he was 'Steve' fr om the moment she laid eyes on him, without him even introducing himself."
