Sophie swallows and croaks her reply: "No Sir." Mr Thomas takes the folded belt from his drawer and lightly slaps it across his hand. "No Sir, indeed", he said, addressing not only Sophie, but the rest of the class. "Twelve strokes of the belt with your skirt up and knickers down. After that, we'll take a stroll along to the headmaster and see what he thinks!""
