"Hey, I'm a long time lurker. Frequent relapser. Don't really know why I'm commenting, but I like your clean style and I played your game. Here's some feedback.Pros: 1. Good call prioritizing the Blacked brand. A lot of IR content, especially bnwo related, is quite trashy. Your girls are pretty, pure, and on the edge of innocence. Classic aesthetic. 2. The random encounters are a cool feature. It keeps multiple playthroughs fresh, with unexpected new content a reason to keep playing. 3. Characters: I think Beth and Athena are great. Good designs, good personalities. Athena is especially distinct. 4. The supernatural/alt additions, like the goth girl and the voodoo minigame are cool, appealing, and creative. 5. The spice/allure/stamina system is well constructed, both in terms of function and narrative. 6. The basketball minigame, the race, and the ex-boyfriend hot-cold game were fun. The hacker and voodoo games were the best, likely because the images updated, rewarding success. 7. The cards are well done and Bunny is a good currency system. Cons: 1. While varied, the random encounters lack dramatic pay-off. Beating the frat boy's stat check doesn't result in any interested conclusion, and neither does beating high-low or bear pong. 2. The King boss is too absurd and uninteresting. Again, there's a lack of dramatic pay-off and intrigue. 3. The special abilities are not impactful and do not seem relevant to the narrative. While I like the idea, there doesn't seem to be much use so far. 4. While it took me multiple attempts to get a good ending, after that there is no reason to replay. The blacked percentage increases, but seemingly that is all that happens. Suggestions: 1. Introduce side characters to cock-block the main character. This could allow you to increase the sexual tension of various mini-games without reaching the climax too early. For example, if at the end of the basketball game Beth is about to get the guy, but then he's distracted by passing rival character, Beth could be frustrated from final victory while still giving the basketball game a satisfyingly dramatic conclusion. For the girls, I'd suggest leaning into stereotypes. Trad girl, doomer girl, activist, nerd, right-wing, gym-girl, etc. 2. To increase replay ability, increase unlockables. Special outfits, IR memes (which you are good at making, btw), or in character social media posts would be good additions. 3. A vendor character to set up those stat increase games, like the shark card game. I'd suggest something like a whiteboy ally - the one with the blacked sub - or maybe a girl who makes blacked edits. Idk. Just a fun side character would be neat. 4. Sexual or funny "catch-phrases" to integrate the cards better into the narrative. It could be something the character says or thinks when playing the card, or it can be special text on the card itself. At present I think the cards are a bit too removed from the psychology of the focal character, and it could make it more interesting to use different characters if they have different responses to the same cards. "Wet", for instance, might be exciting to one but embarrassing or confusing to another, etc. 5. There should be special encounters activated when spice/allure/special reach certain milestones. It would make sense to me, narratively speaking, for a girl with 50 allure to attract attention, and I think the player should get some reward for maxing out a stat."

I appreciate the feedback. All of that is great stuff and I enjoy hearing what you like but also what isn't working for you. This is my first foray into making a game, so there was a bit of a learning curve and I think some of the ideas outpaced where I was with building the game at parts. But, I plan on continuing to finish this game up with the Midnight Drearies characters and then I am going to move on to another game idea with what I've learned. It sounds like you played the Frat House, but did you play the v2 version with the Spring Breakers characters? Some stuff was updated/expanded for the Frat House in that edition as well. |
