“Neocatastrophism” is an unfortunate name for an idea fundamentally explicable in uniformitarian terms. The exceptional presupposes the generic. For example, would finding me masturbating in sewage be as exciting if you thought I’d wash it off later? Don’t my scars betray a consistent lifestyle that you’d otherwise just fantasize about while strangling me? The psycho-epistemological policy is more important than the isolated occurrence, insofar as the former conditions the latter’s context.
