Kate Elizabeth Winslet CBE (born 5 October 1975 in Reading, Berkshire, England) is a British actress. Often regarded by film critics as one of the "preeminent actresses of her generation", she is known for her work in independent films, particularly period dramas, and usually portrays headstrong, complicated women.
