Étienne Varenne (b. 1978, Niort) is a French photographer whose work explores intimacy, vulnerability, and the ordinary body.Raised in the quiet streets of western France, Varenne returned to his hometown after years in Paris and launched Les Dévoilées de Niort (2019–present). For the ongoing series he invites local women of all ages and backgrounds—shopkeepers, teachers, mothers, retirees—to remove their clothes. No professional models, no heavy styling. Varenne’s stated aim is simple: to let ordinary Niortaise women claim their own image without apology. The project has been shown in regional galleries and a small monograph, quietly establishing him as a distinctive voice in contemporary French photography of the body.
