Pavla Polášková is a former Czech actress and is one of the personalities of Czechoslovak cinematography in the 60's of the 20th century. Although her filmography is not extensive, she entered the history of Czech film thanks to her performance in two important films by director František Vlá?il. Pavla Polášková is best known for her role as Alexandra in the film Marketa Lazarová (1967), who is considered by many film critics to be the best Czech film of all time. In this historical epic, she portrayed the daughter of the robber knight Kozlík, who had an incestuous relationship with her brother Adam and later fell in love with the captured young Saxon nobleman Kristián. Her character Alexandra, who had an incestuous relationship with her brother Adam, falls in love with a captured young man. Before Marketa Lazarová, Pavla Polášková appeared in another important work of Vlá?il - the black-and-white film Devil's Trap from 1961. In this film she was shown in the cast as Pavla Plášková, which is probably a variant of her name. The Devil's Trap was the second feature film by František Vlá?il and his first encounter with the historical genre. The film is an adaptation of Alfred Technik's novel The Mill on the Submersible River and introduces the viewer to the Czech countryside of the first half of the eighteenth century. Although Pavla Polášková has appeared in only two films, both are among the main works of Czech cinematography. Marketa Lazarová is highly appreciated by film experts and has already received a number of positive reviews at the time of her premiere. Critics are often referred to as the best Czech film of all time and one of the best historical films ever. In 1994, this film was voted the best Czech film of all time at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival.
