Laura Alderete is an Argentine actress and filmmaker widely recognized for her experimental work within the academic and independent film circles of Argentina. She rose to niche prominence through her involvement with the National University of La Plata (UNLP), where she starred in and collaborated on the 2010 experimental short film "El acercamiento a Erzebeth Bathory." This project, filmed in 16mm, saw Alderete exploring the visual construction of the legendary "Blood Countess," Erzsébet Báthory, blending historical fiction with documentary-style imagery. Beyond her performance as the titular countess, Alderete has built a significant career as a cultural manager, programmer, and producer. She spent over a decade as the programming coordinator for the FICUNAM International Film Festival and has played a pivotal role in the distribution of Latin American independent cinema through her co-founded initiative, Latinoamericana. As of 2024, she serves as the Director of Mexican Cinema Promotion at the Mexican Film Institute (IMCINE).
