Spokane’s Garbage Goat is a quirky, vacuum-powered copper and brass sculpture in Riverfront Park that "eats" small paper trash. Created in 1974 for the environmentally-themed World's Fair (Expo '74), it remains a beloved, interactive local landmark. Built by Sister Paula Mary Turnbull, a local Catholic nun and celebrated artist widely known as "The Welding Nun". She was inspired to build the interactive piece after seeing trashcans shaped like animal heads at a local zoo.
