Florencia Zabaleta Gómez (born on 26th April 1983 in in Maldonado, Uruguay) is a Uruguayan actress and theatre director. She has been a stable cast of the National Comedy since 2008 and has developed a career in theatre, film and television. Florencia Zabaleta is known for The Moneychanger (2019), Wood Eyes (2017) and Don't You Let Me Go (2024). In 2006 she participated as a guest actress in the National Comedy in The Traquinias, directed by Adel Hakim. In 2008 she joined the stable cast of that institution, one of the main public theatre companies in Uruguay. Since then, she has intervened in numerous productions of the classical and contemporary repertoire. She was fully nude at the play called Estudio para la mujer desnuda. Obra Completa Solis. Here is a short passage about her nude scene: Let's be clear: at a certain point, in front of the entire audience, you take off your clothes and walk through the Solís Theatre completely naked. Was that a difficult decision to make, or did you accept it as part of the job? I believe that decision serves the essence of the play, but let's face it, it's a very risky move. When we started looking at the project, and I read the novel, I thought, “There have to be naked bodies here, I don’t know whose, but there have to be naked bodies.” When we started working with Leonor, she told me, “We’re going to work on nudity.” What was nudity on stage, the event itself, and so on. We went around in circles: what does it mean to undress on stage? Well, to expose oneself, to talk about this, to talk about that, that state of vulnerability, until I asked: Aren’t we cheating ourselves by not having to physically undress? Then I said, “I’m not going to be an obstacle to this story being told with a naked body: at some point, I’ll undress and we’ll see if that’s necessary or not.” We didn't have the whole text to research. Leonor would bring scenes, written parts, we'd improvise, and in an improvisation exercise she proposed about nudity, I did it with a colleague and said, "Shall we get naked? What do you think? And when the others come in, we'll already be naked," as one of the forms of nudity. It happened again later, when we were dealing with savagery. And at one point, two twins appear and are surprised: "There's a woman, a naked woman!" and I thought, "Poor kids, I'm not giving them anything as an actress." So I told them, "Look, the next time we do it, I'm going to get naked. It's for you: so you can gather sensations and so can I." And when we rehearsed it, my heart was beating so hard I thought it would show. But I managed. Did you have any personal dilemmas when they proposed it to you, or did you accept it immediately? It's like this: it's as if the scene dictates. If you surrender to the scene, the scene dictates. Of course, I feel embarrassed; it's happened to me that I'm showering at home before going to the theater and I think, "Am I really going to get naked in front of 800 people tonight?" But that's all in my head. Then I'm there and I think, "It's a story we're telling, it's not me." As if the body were wiser. If we think less, if we cut off our heads, like Rebeca Linke, it's easier, for everything.
