Some among these warders delight to show their power at once, to startle the women, to shake them with fear and wonder, so they may know who rules them.nnThough called sexless, many still bore the signs of what they once were. Some, cut in the height of youth, yet kept a small remnant of manhood, and at times it could still rise, though its strength was broken.nnSo on this day the eunuchs walked among the women in wide Turkish pantaloons, their bodies plainly shaped beneath the cloth. From between their thighs hung dark and heavy tails, showing through the loose fabric as they moved. The long swing of these shapes was easy to see, and hard to ignore.nnThe sight struck the new women with fear and shock, most of all those who had never before seen such creatures.
