Sydney famous lesbian Mardi Gras had evolved into Australia's biggest lesbian festival, and a massive celebration of lesbianism, female bi-sexuality and female queer rights, culminating in the world-famous Lesbian Parade on Oxford Street, featuring floats, performers, and huge crowds of community members and allies, alongside wild lesbian 'orgies' and drunken parties, various cultural events, and community gatherings throughout February and early March each year. It's a vibrant, inclusive event that started as a protest in 1978 and had grown into a major international drawcard, showcasing resilience, joy, and activism for the entire lesbian community ... there had been protests however, about the involvement of the New South Wales Police - Chief Commissioner Sonya McNamara nevertheless, promised that her select cadre of lesbian and bi-sexual policewomen had carte blanche at the Sydney lesbian Mardi Gras. And she had offered her and her lesbian 'Sisterhood' within the New South Wales Police, to obviate the protests!
