Oceanus and Tethys were primordial sea deities in Greek mythology, married to each other. Oceanus was the Titan god of the great world-ocean, and Tethys, a Titaness, was the goddess of fresh water and the fertility of the waters. Their marriage produced thousands of children, including the 3,000 Oceanids (sea nymphs) and the 3,000 Potamoi (river gods).
