In 1882 there was a revolt in Egypt by nationalists, angered by the huge debt taken on by the puppet government for the building of the Suez Canal. The Ottoman Pasha was forced to appoint a new 'congress' of old landowners and power shifted to Achmed Urabi and his forces. Anti-European riots soon followed, the worst in Alexandria, forcing London to send an expeditionary force to retake Egypt. Other than those historical facts, the rest of this is just my twisted imagination.
