Professor Hiroshi Yamamoto works in the Department of Psychology, University of West Florida. He has established a sexuality research department, that consists so far only by him and his research assistent and daughter, Naomi Yamamoto. They have mapped the sexual landscape of America of today, mainly by interviewing thousands of students.

They discovered one area that was more common than they had anticipated, but not much researched. So when Naomi decided what her dissertation should be about, she chose that particular subject, which is ”Consensual incest”. A lot of students had anonymously confessed that they had erotic or sexual interactions with a close family member, and that they didn't regret it.

They found that:

34% of the interviewees had spied on a parent or a sibling or accidently seen them nude,

22% of the students had had sexual fantasies or dreams about a close family member,

13% had played games with a sibling, where the unsaid goal was to see them naked,

7% had had consensual, sexual relations within the nuclear family.

They also searched for people on internet forums, who wanted to share their positive experiences, so they also got the perspective from parents.

To better understand how people could overcome the taboo of incest, she conducted an experiment with her father. To see if the attraction to a family member was inherent of learnt, she tried to for just one minute, fantasize of having sex with her father, and then write down the feelings she had during that minute. After the first time, she was revolted and felt ashamed for thinking like that about the man who had raised her. But she had decided to keep doing this, one minute at a time, to see if her feelings could change.

The second time she forced herself to sexualize her father, she was still uncomfortable, but not as much as the first time. The third time, she was almost a neutral audience to her own fantasy. She didn't feel much at all. It was more like watching porn that didn't turn her on. The fourth time, she began to enjoy trying to think of erotic situations with her dad, and she felt naughty in a good way. The fifth time, she noted that she was evidently aroused. She concluded that incestous desire was an aquired taste. To confirm this, she masturbated while thinking of her father having sex with her, and she orgasmed quicker than when she used to look at porn.

She told her father about how she used herself as a test subject and the result. He offered to perform the same experiment, thinking of her. His result was similar to Naomi's, but more accelerated. He could jerk off, thinking of his daughter, after only the third time.

The implication of their experiment, is that sexual attraction can be taught, if you only open your mind and allow yourself to be turned on by a sexual orientation. This is probably also true of hetero- and homosexuality. They discussed the possibility to ask others to replicate the experiment, to see if they were unusually openminded when it came to matters of sex.

They also discussed if they should test if their theoretical attraction also would work in practice, i e if they should have sex for real. At this stage, they had to involve Himari Yamamoto, Hiroshi's wife and Naomi's mother. She would have to give them permission to do that experiment. She realized the importance of their groundbreaking research, so she agreed. Naomi's husband was more reluctant, but agreed to, if he was also allowed to have extra-marital sex. The practical solution was that he had sex with Naomi's mother, at the same time as the professor did this important research with his assistant.

Naomi included the experimental part of her research in her dissertation, which made it the most talked about paper from their university that year. It was a detailed description of how they felt seeing each other naked for the first time, touching each other and then performing different sexual acts, including intercourse. For the sake of scientific rigor, they filmed the whole experiment.

The biggest difference the study led to on a personal plane, is that the first weekend every month, Himari and Naomi swap partners.
