I tend to use cruelty like a hammer, with much force and little subtlety, and while I do enjoy that kind of fantasy, I find comparatively delicate stuff like this compelling, maybe because it's surprising on some level to me. I'm like: "Wait! You can do that? That's an actual possibility?" There's a softness to it that makes the woman alluring, and that, in turn, makes the betrayal more persuasive... more moving and real. And since the entire fetish is about cruelty becoming arousing, it makes sense that actually mixing tenderness/seductiveness and sadism/viciousness within the story itself would facilitate that. The cruelty probably needs to ultimately have the upper hand for me to really like it (and it needs to be harsh enough), but having both facets is really nice. The balance in this story is very good.
