Centuries-old racist constructs were developed to dehumanize Black people and mark them as deviant. With high rates of white sexual violence against African Americans, archetypes were intended to show Black people as sexually defiant, thus validating White people’s constant violation of Black bodies.
Slave breeding was the attempt by a slave-owner to influence the reproduction of his slaves for profit.[4] It included forced sexual relations between male and female slaves, encouraging slave pregnancies, sexual relations between master and slave to produce slave children and favoring female slaves who had many children.
It was common for the slave to be subordinated sexually to the master–even men with enslaved males. It was part of the enslaved man’s function as an “animated tool,” an instrument of pleasure.
