Emily manages to repeat the process with the other wives, each with a different negro. In the meantime she forms a council with the slaves. She shows them a large leather bound book, yet to be written in. She invites each of the seven to write their names or make their mark. She then writes something under their names and signs it. She tells them what she has written next to each name is a wage. They should no longer consider themselves slaves. She wants ALL the slaves to put their name in the book and the same will apply to each and everyone of them. Although they are free to leave, they know that they would be captured and enslaved elsewhere. Emily’s plan is to prove to the other owners that productivity would increase if the workforce is treated properly, and even with a wage being paid the profits would also increase.
Emily spends the night with Isaac, the scene ends with her asleep on his chest. But the episode ends with a well dressed white man disembarking from a ship.
