Do you worship a CRUEL God (for RogueFemale)

Postby JennyDevine on Tue Oct 21, 2008 3:35 pm

Religious treads always seem to work there way into these Adult site forums and spark all kinds of interesting topics.

RogueFemale authored the “DON’T VOTE” thread and this is a spin off for her.

I’ll save my religious views for latter, but the question has been posed…

Do you worship a cruel God???

JD's question didn't deal with incompetent bank managers.

When I've re-read her post for a couple of times, I pictured Abraham when he was forced to sacrifice his son. I only vaguely remember this story and I'm not quite sure if God wanted to be worshipped; if so: this was really cruel.

My answer is quite simple: No, I don't worship a God in a cruel way like
- the Romans did in the ancient world (morituri te salutant...)
- the priests did in the dark ages (inquisition, crusades...)
- the god's warriors do in the present (Afghanistan...)

Not God was or is cruel - manhood at all times tended to misuse God for their cruel targets.

JD, I'm still curious what you might reveal.

actually, i did. my post is gone. all my posts from yesterday are gone. or at least the two important ones i made... this one and the one in the underaged galleries topic in the help section. i didnt even think they were that bad. gave my opinion here and told the stickup guy to stop crying CALL THE FBI. tried to explain the difference between what is illegal and what is against IFap rules. the galleries he was complaining about arent illegal in anyway but they could be against IFap rules. depends on if you think the girls are 18 or not.

hell, i didnt even say "witch hunt" just told him to knock it off. if IFap wants to delete them because they are unsure of the age, let them but they arent illegal.

and i dont believe in God. and i do not understand all this "religious" conflict when Jews, Christians and Muslems all worship the same God.

i donno, maybe someone took offense somewhere.

My post is gone from this thread also... Dunno if it's worth trying to repost it if it's getting killed out. Might be a glitch?

I am an Athiest.... no gods period. Which always leaves me with Budisum (no gods in that religion) But I dislike any orginization that
takes your money in the name of "spiritual enlightenment".

I do belive in GOOD and EVIL and money is the root of evil, so you have to ask yourself.... if a church takes your money is there room for EVIL??

So you say.... "Everyone worships something, whether it's money, power or God."

If that is true, everyone is a polytheist (multi-religions). Religious people care just as much about those things that atheists care about. If the atheists' reactions to their families amount to worship.... then so do the religious folks.

Also, holding something as more important than all other things does not constitute "worship" by any meaningful definition of the word.

How can I be a good person if Im and Atheist you ask????

If you mean "Is there such a thing as morality for atheists?" then the answer is yes. Many atheists have ideas about morality which are at least as strong as those held by religious people.

If you mean "Does atheism have a characteristic moral code?" then the answer is no. Atheism by itself does not imply anything much about how a person will behave. Most atheists follow many of the same "moral rules" as Religious folks, but for different reasons. Atheists view morality as something created by humans, according to the way humans feel the world 'ought' to work, rather than seeing it as a set of rules decreed by a supernatural being.

Ok.... my rant is over. (bash away)

Why could I, why should I bash you?

I admire every atheist since she/he has to find her/his own (moral) code, without the "support" or "guidance" a classical religion designs for its members.
Where it generally makes no difference if the rules are made by humans or decreeded by a supernatural being, because the religious leaders always have the final say and won't accept any doubts.
Personally, I could live with any kind of religion in its pure state, the differences between Judaism, Christianity and Islam are quite insignificant if you start with their roots. I was rather amazed how familiar your statement sounded, you could have read it in the early books (ok, you didn't use the word God).
However, it also means that I can't live with any kind of religion in its current state. Now guess what I became?

Anyway, I still don't quite understand the thread's title, particularly the CRUEL part.

Just one last question: did I translate Budisum with Buddhism correctly?
