The golem, uncertain about what to do and unable to disentwine the man’s feelings, defaulted to what she was built to do: she obeyed.

Just as she had done with her master, Nava fell to her knees in front of “ol’ Jerry.” She was hesitant, still sensing the wrath in him, but her natural subservience won out.
