Same Old Story, So This Is Christmas
|
|
Psychologist Robyn Salisbury helps a reader with a relationship dilemma.
QUESTION: I just know that my husband is going to expect sex for Christmas. Whenever we go on holiday, whenever it's his birthday – any special occasion – it's mandatory and this pisses me off so much but if I say no or find a way to avoid it this sours our day. And so I comply while seething inside.
I've tried talking to him before the day, but he just gets his hurt-little-boy look on and says he's puzzled about why this cannot also be a special time for me.
Why do we carry on in quiet desperation, hoping that something will change, knowing it won't and can't ever be what we had hoped for, or wanted, while our one life and chance for happiness and joy ebbs away????????
