True experience....an incident in the playground during my schooldays in 1975.

One dinnertime an argument (that had the probability to break into a fistfight at any moment) occurred between two lads my age (14). As is the way with these things, a crowd of spectators quickly formed around the protagonists. The row got more heated, the mixed crowd calling out encouragement and support to one lad or another. Then tension seemed to ease ever ever so slightly between the boys and I knew straight away and instinctively that no fight was going to happen - they just weren't going to go for it and come to blows although still at odds with each other. I could not have been alone in my perception because it was at this very moment that Sheila G., (known to us as a bit of a slag) and her little gang of three or four girls, sensing as I did that things were going off the boil, intensified their shouts and calls to the lads to fight e.g. "hit him Bri" etc. etc. This group of girls (and other individual ones too) became very animated and vocal and actually closed in a bit around the lads concerned, pressurising them to begin the fight. This had the desired effect immediately and aggressive behaviour briefly returned to the two lads, but then things palpably began to cool again - I noticed straightaway - and so did Sheila & Co. too. Immediately, in an all-out attempt to initiate the fight they desired to see,  Sheila and one of her pals physically pushed the lads roughly into each other. This pushed the two protagonists ‘over the edge’ and they began in earnest what was to be a very bloody fight indeed. This was much to the girls delight. Almost 40 years on I can reiterate that those lads did not want to fight but only did so because of the sexual presence of, and urgings (physical and mental) of those girls. The girls wanted blood and violence and were not going to be denied it at any price. Recalling this still fascinates me. A footnote...the lads received the cane for fighting as punishment by the headmaster, the girls got what they wanted - the reward of seeing two males fight.
