question for the techie guys out there? please help!

i have reason to believe my wife is cheating on me and i want to check her computer. however it has a finger print lock on it (h-p laptop). I would like to access the harddrive using a harddrive reader and view/copy files. if i do this can she tell that her harddrive has been removed? viewed? copied? obviously i plan to put it back immediately.
any help is greatly appreciated.

more importantly, how can you get to either see or video her doing it so you can enjoy it? ;)

You need a CD or USB stick with Ubuntu Live on it. You can then mount the hard drive and see files that are on it.
if you have physical access to a computer it is relatively easy to access and copy any of the contents unless they are encrypted on the disk.

i used it once on a colleague's laptop as it had been left around and she forgot the password. it works perfectly just need a disc to rip it too.
