Cryogenics - developed for space exploration - a means of suspending the aging process - and then restarting at a future time. Other applications were based on finding medical cures for terminal patients. Freeze them today - defrost them after a cure for the decease has been found. Research started in the 20th century with the dawn of the SPACE AGE Circa 1960. After Warp engines were developed, the need for being frozen for space travel disappeared. After Time travel was made safe the medical desire to cure decease no longer required cryogenics.
