You wear boring shoes, part II

I checked the roster of applicants that day, as always and their mug shots.  I nearly spilled my coffee when I saw "Boring shoes girl" had applied for a job.  I picked up the phone and called recruiting, and told the whipper-snapper there I'd do the intake today.  He didn't quite know what to say, except er yes sir, what should I do sir.  I replied "Go take an extended coffee break'.

So when the receptionist showed her into the meeting room, she couldn't help herself from saying 'Oh shit' when she saw me behind the desk.   She was dressed nicely, her hair pulled back in a pony-tail.  Her conservative blouse and trousers covering her tatoos.  She'd even removed the little sparkly thing in the side of her nose I noticed.

I motioned to the chair, and let her sweat a little as I 'read her resume'.  I didn't want her to sweat too much, so the first question was easy.  'You studied pathology at college?'  She replied 'Yes, I wanted to be a pathologist but it wasn't the profession for me it turns out'.

That could be handy in the future I thought.  So I cut right to the chase.  There's lots of travel in this position, have you travelled much before?  She replied quickly 'No I've always been stuck here, but I would love to see the world'.  The next question was weird no matter how you asked it - How do you feel about cold and enclosed spaces?  She looked at me like I was trying to trip her up....  I wasn't that was a standard question, she replied 'They've never worried me before'.

Do you have any questions for me?

'What exactly would I be doing in this position, the job description was vague, but said 'exciting', 'travel' and 'demanding?'

'Oh we will get to that in a moment', I said as I scanned the background security had dug up on her.  She was definitely an interesting case.  Not a misfit, someone who didn't like rules, and clearly had a lack of respect of authority.  Perfect for what we needed.  Plus she was smart.

You know what Vivian, I'm going to show you, I said as I stood.  Walking to the door behind my desk, 'come-on, if you still want the job - that is'.

She lept up with clear excitement, 'not too good at sitting still, I thought to myself - we will have to teach her patience', and then noticing that I'd noticed her eagerness, toned it down and walked non-chalantly to the door.

"After you Vivian", I said, as I opened the door that led down the hallway to the recruitee stage two interview rooms.  'I promise you won't be bored by the job, if your up for it'.
