Haircutter vs Ex

The woman who has been cutting my hair for years somehow got onto the subject of my ex-wife, who happens to be the person in my avatar picture. In the middle of cutting, out of nowhere, she brought up the idea of being a little afraid of my ex, even though they have never met. You have to imagine my cutter, about five-five, 40 years old, I think at least partially of Greek extraction, with dark hair (sometimes red with henna) and tattooed on arms, back of her neck and legs. I know she once worked as a nightclub bouncer, and I'm pretty sure she could handle herself in a fight. "You could take her," I said. "My ex is all fire on the outside, but pretty soft in the middle." It was a pleasant rush to think of these two equals in a brawl of pent-up energy. And, to tell the truth, I'm not entirely certain my ex couldn't take my haircutter, after all.
