The craft of the Craft is the craft of producing altered states of consciousness , and, traditionally, always has been. - Aidan Kelly"The candles, the incense, and the images are props, these things are not magic. The magic is the art (or science) of using the props."-from "Drawing Down the Moon", Chp 7, Magic and Ritual, Margot Alder"In the province of the mind, what the mind believes to be true, either is true or becomes true within certain limits to be found experientially and experimentally. These limits are further beliefs to be transcended. In the mind there are no limits." - John LilyIt is easy to KNOW that something is true but it not so easy to FEEL that something is true, hence ritual. - PercivalModern science takes a different approach to changes in mentality. Modern science views us as another organism. As an organism, there is that which we respond to and the ways that we respond. It is on this basis that the science of hypnosis is developed. Feed the organism suitably and it will inevitably respond in a uniform manner just as a vine can be lead to grow along a trellis. So it seems then that ritual and hypnosis are the same. Pursuing a story, the story over takes you.In my pursuit I not only long for the old mentality of Magic but recognize that I need it to free myself from the lifeless circle of porn pleasure. Porn has no magic, it has no depth, inevitably you end up picking yourself up off of the street as though just run over once again ... the promise betrayed, what could be is not, just another flat day in the life. Of course having sex with another person is not so different either if your heart and imagination are not in it.Magic offers the chance to use ones nature for a purpose, for bringing motivation and passion to things that can be shared with rather than hidden from others. But it is a frightening proposition. Tto belief in Magic requires belief in dangerous things as well as beneficent things, insanity as well as greater sanity. Personally I am afraid of Witches, Magic, desire that exceeds my ability to refuse it. I am afraid of images and rituals that will carry me into dreams, feelings, hallucinations, mostly, because I am naturally susceptible ... I have experienced these phenomena ... when they happen, well ... your "organism" responds and you are confronted with real experiences in your life. Magic, through the portal of realized imagination is the vehicle created for, firstly, awaking the half aware to new possibilities, secondly, finding the actual path though the weed patch of conventional belief to magical experiences, and finally, providing a province of safety based on ones desire to remain part of the human community. In my life it is more dangerous not to proceed celebrating the rituals of Magic, feeding my organism then otherwise ... getting out of the bottle is imperative. To a few people this will make sense, to most, it will make less sense then looking for the next juicy picture and an orgasm before dinner, believe me I do understand.
