    Perversion and health

I have been mostly quiet for about a week - been occupied by other things. I have been logging on now and then, but just did not have any energy to respond to all the messages.

I am just curious... what do people think of as being "perverted"? I am not talking about coming up with a list of sexual activities. I am more curious about the kind of criterion that people might have for perversion. Do you think you are perverted? Do you want to remain that way?

I think these questions are at the core of why I am here. I am just trying to get to the bottom of this and become as healthy as possible. I am just exploring myself to find out what it means to be healthy. Of course, I am having a little fun on the way, but really it is about unravelling myself. I think once I am done with that, I may disappear from here.

Does anyone else think along those lines?

Perversion has such a pejorative connotation. It's one of those words that is emotionally charged and judgmental. I try to avoid it when I can.

But OK. Do I think I am perverted? I have a strong libido and a focused sexuality. My preference tends toward voyeurism (I am after all a photographer) especially where Marie (my lovely wife) is concerned. I especially enjoy having her enjoy her own sexual freedom any way and with whomever she pleases. Does that make me perverted?

Our sexual relationship is not mainstream. But life is too short to deny who we are because someone might disapprove.

Thanks again for your thoughtful blog!

How very odd! I have been asking myself the exact same question! The only answer I have come up with is probably wrong... but I don't think of fetishes or fantasies as perversions. The reason being that they are not normally harmful... and can be a positive thing in peoples lives. I think a perversion may be something that harms either the practitioner or someone else.

The need to inflict or recieve genuine pain is I think a perversion, whereas to fantasise or role-play such a thing is harmless.

I admit... this doesn't sound a very convincing definition even to me!... but it's the best I've come up with so far. I actually arrived at this because of a strange person on another site who would not accept that I did not share his fetish, and he kept messaging me every minute trying to badger me. I think that is a perverted act.
