The Performance
There is a specific kind of exhaustion that comes from being exactly who everyone expects you to be. The smile that doesn't reach the eyes, the curated conversations, the effortless maintenance of a life that looks perfect from the outside.
Most people see the mask and assume there is nothing beneath it, or perhaps something identical. But the real weight is the silence that follows when the door finally closes. The sudden, jarring relief of being alone, and the subsequent realization that you have become a stranger to yourself in the process.
It is a lonely thing, to be admired for a version of yourself that you no longer recognize.
