At the fourth of July party it was clear that he hadn't told his friends I'm white. Was he ashamed of my color?

I asked if he had told his parents about me and that I'm white. He said they know about me but not my color. I said it would be a good thing to do it before I meet them. I have told my parents he's black.

One day he was sad. I asked what was wrong. He said he had told his parents I'm white and they were not happy, especially not his mother. I didn't want to ask to much but on his mother's side they came to America as slaves. And her family has been subject to much racism during the 20'th century. So she doesn't really trust white people. Perhaps it's easier that I'm a girl. I guess it will take some time before I will meet them. I just hope they will like me when they get to know me.

And I thought it was my parents that could be a problem. Sure, they are not super happy about it but it's not like they disapprove of our relationship.
