The Hollywood Sewing Circle
I'm not entirely sure if even one person reads blogs on this site, but let me try. Wanted to used it to test some ideas and maybe discuss scenes I might or might not create.
The Hollywood Sewing Circle is a well-known thing: Google it, there are multiple books about it too. It is a phrase used (possibly first coined by Marlene Dietrich) to describe a group of lesbian and bisexual actresses and their relationships in celebrity circles, particularly during Hollywood's golden age. Dietrich very clearly was bisexual, but when I dove deeper into the topic, I was surprised by some of the other names that popped up: Greta Garbo, Barbara Stanwyck, Joan Crawford, and (of course) Katharine Hepburn! Joan Crawford fascinated me particularly and I quickly found out - to my excitement - about her fling with Marilyn Monroe in the ‘50s, when Marilyn was still an upcoming starlet. Mind you, this is not an urban story: In the transcripts of her taped sessions with psychiatrist Dr. Ralph Greenson, Marilyn admits to a full-blown lesbian encounter with Joan Crawford, 18 years older ‘Oh yes, Crawford,’ she says. ‘We went to Joan’s bedroom. Crawford had a gigantic orgasm and shrieked like a maniac.’ Later on she refused further sex encounters with Crawford, and apparently this led to a feud. It is well-known that Monroe already had a longer sexual relationship with her acting coach, Natasha Lytess at the time. She must have learned a lot from that. Later on, in 1961, after Frank Sinatra’s cabaret opening at the Sands, Las Vegas, she had a one-off sexual encounter with her rival as the Queen of Hollywood, Elizabeth Taylor, who was six years her junior. ‘Her touch was electric,’ wrote Taylor of Marilyn later in her own diary. Think I’ll be back on that, and several other of the Sewing Circle encounters. what do you think? Worth to put in a gallery ...?

Echoing Researching. Do galleries, but also write THAT novel. Put yourself in it as NOT the hopeful starlet but as the aspiring writer/producer (there were some, very hard indeed; they too moonlighted as movie extra/escort). She's determined to be THE Top. Ambivalent re lesbianism but having sucked Jack Wrner's cock too many times for nothing, decides to be a knitter in the Sewing Circle. See the early 1960s novel The Carpetbaggers (also a technicolor movie made under the Hays guidelines). Go for it. As public figures, the estates can't sue you. Ring leader was, I think, Hattie McDaniel, the black actress who as the "ultimate maid" made the White Fem Stars lick her feet & clean her crack.
