Gentler Mud Sounding
|
I found that sounding Mud on the drier side would occasionally leak the compressed air past the mud and reduce how much was actually pumped in. My solution was to load the 35 ml air syringe with 5 ml of water. After sounding the Mud filled aquarium tubing, I connect the air syringe and first pump in the water followed by the air. The water successfully filled the voids within the dry Mud, also served as a lubricant between the Mud and the interior surface of the tubing, so the insertion of the Mud was much gentler and did not need as high air pressures that previous soundings required. When I removed the tubing, the entire mass of Mud was expelled into my urethra, and the tubing was completely clean.
An added benefit was elimination of the pulse associated with the high pressure release of Mud. I found this a bit disconcerting risking rupturing internal anatomy. Fortunately, there was no pain, ever, and no sign of injury.
