Wet at school

|
In elementary school, I went to Catholic school. That was the school at which my 3rd grade teacher got married and had the wet wedding in the pond that I wrote about in my first post. I seem to remember that, about a year after that, our gym class had a surprise swim lesson. Instead of our school uniforms, we were all in our gym clothes which were navy blue shirts and pants or shorts, with socks and sneakers. Two students, one boy and one girl, forgot their gym clothes and were dressed in their regular uniforms. We trooped over to a nearby YMCA and were told to stand around the pool. Our teacher, who was a nun in full habit, started talking to us about pool safety and what to do if we fell in the water fully clothed. She suddenly jumped into the water in all her habit, shoes included. She then told us to jump in. We were all young kids, of course we thought jumping into the water in our clothes was great fun! Even the kids who were in full uniform were happy to jump in. We swam around for thr rest of clsss time, learning how to float in our heavy clothes. I alrwady pretty much knew how to do it, since I had been swimming in my clothes after church for almost a year. When we were almost done, our principal came over from the school to see how we were doing and ended up jumping into the pool in her dress, hosiery, and heels. We climbed out, dried off, and changed back into our uniforms. Except, of course, for the two kids who did not have gym clothes. They dried off as best they could and wore their damp clothes the rest of the dauly. So did the principal. Luckily it was very warm out.
