    Free Captioning For Dummies

    The Tools
    • GIMP (for creating the overlays)
    • EZgif  (website for GIF manipulation)
    • Source of videos/gifs (will be expanded upon later)
    • Your creativity

     The Source

What's important when making captions is consistency of the frame. There needs to be context to what's going on - otherwise you lose the purpose of a caption, which is to tell a story - and the actual video or gif needs usable dimensions. For example, a perfectly square video is hard to work with; we ideally want a 16:9 aspect ratio. This is commonly 1920 x 1080, though strange resolutions can always be cropped.

Your source of videos and gifs must be something that plays well with EZgif. Many websites protect their media with gibberish links, which is why I typically try to go to the 'source' NSFW subreddits - all of which are combined and browsed via Scrolllr.

To view 18+ links, click the "18+" button in the bottom left. They like to limit you on subreddits, but if you're familiar with reddit at all, you can just append the names in the top URL to customize your own 'feed'. I have several I use depending on the gallery. Sissy captions use trans or anal subreddits, for example.

EZGif EZGif is your one-stop-shop for all things gifs. It can convert videos to gifs, crop them, resize them, trim off frames, add overlays, and compress (optimize) them. I have made my own private program that utilizes a lot of their same functionality, but that's just to quicken my image processing. Regardless, this site performs everything you need.

    This is my typical workflow:

  • Find media that has a good resolution (preferably 16:9), and make it into a gif (either by video conversion, or just downloading)
  • Crop the media into 16:9 (if it isn't already). I like the action to be off-center so I have somewhere to put captions, which means I might crop off a little more of the media if I need to for good framing.
  • Resize to something more respectable. imagefap has a 12 MB upload limit, and I've found my golden zone around 900 x 506, though you can likely go a little bigger.
  • If the size is too big (over 25 MB or so), think about using "Cut" to trim off some time, presuming it loops okay.
  • Add your Overlay (we'll talk about this in the GIMP section)
  • Use the "Optimize" features to get it below 11.5 MB, doing as little compression as you can.
  • Download it, and you're done!
  •

    GIMP

You only need to understand 3 things in GIMP:

  • How to write text
  • How to work layers
  • (Optionally) How to outline text
  •

First we're going to need to make the overlay. Create a new file and make it 1920 x 1080 or whatever your desired resolution and aspect ratio. You can think of an overlay being.. well, an image you will lay over your media. It will be completely transparent save for the text atop it.

Delete the default background it gives you so you just see the white/gray checkerboard pattern, which means it's transparent. Click the 'A' tool on the side (the text tool) and drag a rectangle anywhere to get typing. I use custom fonts when I do this, but just find one that's easy to use.

To help with framing, I like to copy a still of my GIF and put it on GIMP as a layer, just something to judge where the text will go. I write my captions - concise but creative - then delete the reference and export my overlay image as a PNG. If you want the fancy outlining, you can look up "GIMP plugin text outline" and find custom scripts people have made online. Makes the process quicker.

    Putting it All Together

You have your media, your overlay, and you're stuck on EZgif dutifully following the guide. Wonderful! Go to Effects -> Add Overlay on EZgif, pick your media, then pick your overlay. You can resize and drag it to fit, though if you've been following this guide then nothing should be done. Your media will be the same aspect ratio as your captions. Generate the image, then click 'Optimize' to get that filesize below imagefap's upload limit (around 11.5 MB to be safe).

Now create the gallery on imagefap and you're done! Experiment with ways to write your text, to outline, to format. Try to aim for amateur videos and GIFs to sell the authenticity. Most of all, be creative and less porn-y with your captions. If you're just describing the image then your caption is useless, add some context to why it's happening and how we got there. Most of all, have fun - and good luck!
