ADULTERY AND CASTRATION (HISTORY)

Castration has historically been a punishment for Adultery  in ancient times.

This had be certainly the case in ancient matriarchal societies, but no solid historical data about this relation has been found. More about this tradition has been found in early patriarchates who knew the writing. Castration as punishment for adultery was common by the Assyrians.

According to Dharma Shastras and Dharma Sutras , castration was imposed as punishment for crimes such as adultery and rape. The Gautama Dharmasutra and Manusmriti accords punishment of castration on a Sudra who has intercourse with a woman of a highervarna. While Sudras were punished with forcible castration by law, the Brahmin was allowed voluntary castration, that too only if he has intercourse with the wife of his guru or an elderly woman. The stratification in criminal justice system in ancient India, based on vertical hierarchy in terms of caste and occupation, was clearly seen in respect of sexual offences also.

It is imperative to note that in ancient China , males had their manhood chopped off for crimes including adultery, extra-marital sex, and any promiscuous activity.

Husbands who committed adultery were punished with castration as required under this law.

 

Ancient history cheating:  

In antiquity and in the Middle Ages, castration was the appropriate punishment for adulterers and the adaptation took place in the open, to the entertainment of the flooded public. And even recently, Thailand from 1973-1990s , most amputations resulted from wives of husbands who were abusing them or committing adultery. Many husbands never filed charges and for those who did the Thai court system most often sided with the female defendant.

The relationship between adultery and castration is buried deep in the collective unconscious of both men and especially women. One of the most common reasons women castrate their men is due to infidelity. 

This motiv is found all over the world in many cultures, ancient and modern, and without any doubt an  archetypal relation  in the human soul (Carl Gustav Jung ).
