Hey, folks! I've created a new gallery just to show the main steps I take in transforming a vintage black and white porn image into a colorized one. It's NOT a one-button operation, believe me!
The photo I've chosen to illustrate this is a very old one, probably from the 1910s. Check it out in the gallery.
Here in brief are the steps.
You can see the black and white image I started with. Photos of this age present some
difficulties that more recent ones (say, images made in the 1940s
onward) often do not. They are frequently grainy, with poor contrast,
both of which make colorization difficult. Still, I do what I can with
them!
The first step I take is bringing the image into one of my photo editing
programs and enhancing it, which usually means improving the contrast
and brightness, eliminating at least some of the graininess and erasing
any unwanted spots or other degradation. The result is the second photo in the gallery.
Now things get fun! I take the cleaned-up b&w image and run it
through an AI colorization app. Sometimes the results are pretty
amazing, but many times they leave a lot to be desired. In this case I
felt that the colorization was a start — but just a start. See the third image in the gallery.
I now bring the image into Photoshop and go to work on it. This can
include many things, but typically I almost always have to adjust the
color, as well as correct any areas where the AI simply guessed wrong.
Brightness, contrast, hue, saturation — all these and more have to be
tinkered with and tweaked. Often it's a matter of simply playing around
with different elements until it all looks right to me. This is represented by the fourth image in the gallery.
My last step involves taking a final look to see if there's anything
at all I can do to make the final result more satisfactory. In this
case, I used a "denoising" program to take out even more of the
graininess. I don't always do this because denoising sometimes removes
detail that I prefer to leave in, but it seemed to work OK here. Here I
also heightened the redness of the girl's lips. Finally, I tweaked the
contrast some more.
And there you have it, as in the fifth and last photo.
I hope you enjoyed this quick tour of my vintage erotica colorization
process. It really is a labor of love. Colorization that meets my personal
standards takes time.
