The first-grade teacher was starting a lesson on multi-syllable words.
She thought it would be a good idea to ask a few of the children for examples of words
with more than one syllable.
She asked Jane, who after some thought proudly said, "Mon-day."
"Well done, Jane," praised the teacher, "yes that has two syllables - quite right."
"Does anyone know another word?"
"I do, I do, I do, me, me me," called out little Johnny.
Knowing Johnny's more advanced sense of humour, she picked Mike instead.
"Sat-ur-day," replies Mike
"Very good, Mike that has three syllables. Well done."
Not wanting to be outdone, Johnny called out, " I know a four syllable word, Miss....pick me."
Thinking that he can do no harm with a word that long, the teacher reluctantly asks,
"What is your four syllable word then, Johnny?"
Johnny proudly announces confidently, "Mast - ur - ba - tion."
Quite shocked, the teacher finds it hard to maintain her composure, then replies,
"Wow! Johnny, four whole syllables, that's certainly a big mouthful."
"No Miss, you're thinking of blow - job and that's only two syllables."
