In the old days, newpapers had columnists who did professional reviews and used professional evaluative companies like Underwriters Labs to give consumers the best possible information, and got paid for their knowledge, precision, and carefully crafted words. I'm sorry, five stars and a sentence about 'I bought it for my significant other's birthday and they liked it' isn't what I want to know before I plunk down a couple hundred or thousand bucks for a gun, guitar, or engine upgrade on my Harley. I got nothing against people's best intentions but I've been stiffed twice recently on purchases I had to make based on reviewers imprecise technical reviews of electronic products and musical instruments... one was for $250 the other was for $5000. Now a musical instrument is a tool to me, I've played since 1967 and I like to feel that I have a journeyman's knowledge of their construction and function. I was totally unprepared for a big name brand instrument with a once in a lifetime purchase price for me that arrived internally defective. The defect didn't show up for months after the purchase and required the instrument to be returned to the factory, and it was eventually replaced with a matching instrument with the SAME defect. It has taken two years for the manufacturer to start to replace this instrument... because in order to match the cash value, they are having to give me two instruments of lesser value... they don't make the model I purchased and wanted any more. So much for relying on five stars and good intentions. Because of this two years lag time, I have literally hundreds of arrangements, compositions and new material that have gone unfinished... there are other factors like four recording interfaces that have failed due to software incompatibilites not disclosed by the manufacturer with various operating systems too, specifically Windows 7 which all of my DAW works in. With all this wonderful spare time I see other musicians have on Youtube and other social media, I really wonder why with my resources, I'm having these software issues and not getting support after that's what you supposedly get with these products????
