Boy this virus and old age had really knocked the wind out of my sails

Usually after I retired I'd ride the Harley from coast to coast three or four time a year... and get in a winter trip or two to boot... yes... a motorcycle is a four season vehicle and I have ridden in the snow, in the mountains at 30 degrees fahrenheit, WITHOUT heated clothing. Dangerous? Hey, shopping in Walmart can get you killed and is a lot less interesting. But, about three years ago, my back started going... couldn't do 500 miles in a day... then even 250 got to be too much. So rather than settling into the long slow slide into the grave, I started gold prospecting... hey, I took a lot of science courses in college, picked up a few on line classes in geology, minerals and mining. I climbed in my first abandoned mine in 1968 when I was fifteen and stupid... didn't even have a flashlight or know about 'incline shafts' in the middle of a dark tunnel... but I survived. Growing up part of my youth in the California desert I can 4x4, and backcountry with the best of them... hey, a bike ain't all I put between my legs, okay. Did my first prospecting trip to UT and NV last year and found gemstones on the face of a cliff overlooking an open pit mine outside Ely, NV. There were two families at the sight looking for gems too, and the parents told me they didn't even know what to look for. I showed them what I had found, led them over to the pit and gave them a quick lesson in seeing what most folks can't see. Hope they found something. So far doesn't look like I'm going to make it out this year, too bad... I've learned a lot.
