Race Again: My Complete Thoughts
|
Hello people,
For my first blog post, I want to talk about a comment someone left on my page. In this comment they said, "Race again....borrrring." It's attitudes like this that are the reason why I started this project in the first place. I appreciate that they said it, because it makes for a great example regarding why I'm doing this.
To address the question, I never said this page is about "race". Let that sink in for a moment, there's a crucial point to be made here. I said this page is about White women, as in women who are descendants of Europeans. If it were about a group of women from a cul-de-sac, it wouldn't make much of a difference.
Notice how I put "race" in quotations. Want to guess why? because it's nothing more than a political term to me. If it only meant 'people from X region' (which is what it meant a very long time ago), things would be different. But it's not that simple anymore. "Race", as used by my critic, is instead riddled with twisted meanings and frequently used to invoke turmoil and animosity... like I said, political.
That's why he said, "race again" as if this page being about White women somehow translates to me trying to invoke turmoil and animosity, although nothing I've said points to that. Would he have reacted the same way if my page was about the beauty of Indian women? Or Black women? Latin women? Asian women? I don't think so.
That's why I started this project a year ago, because I noticed how negative people would react toward the acknowledgement of a White woman's beauty; how often they were subtly (sometimes outright) put down. What confused me was how acceptable it was. Such attitudes didn't receive backlash but tons of praise, which I felt was backwards. Those who disagreed were automatically met with extreme criticism for no good reason.
I wanted to do something that not only acknowledges all of their beauty but encourages others to appreciate it because there should be nothing wrong with doing that. It's ridiculous really. This entire universe is made up of so much beauty, let alone this world of ours, and it should be recognized.
So, aren't White women apart of this world's beauty, much like everything and everyone else? For every person that would say no or even hesitate to answer is exactly why something like this is needed.
