Watch out for online porn! Popular websites lead to viruses. What kind of websites?
|
Even the most popular porn sites, visited by millions of people, which should theoretically be trusted and safe, can be a source of danger for your computer. Not on its own, but thanks to the countless ads that they are usually filled with.
The topic was raised by a man named Conrad Longmore on Dynamoo's blog. He played the role of an Internet researcher and using Alex's tools (ranking of popularity of websites) and Google Safe Browsing (diagnostics of infected websites) he examined popular porn sites for the risks they pose.
The results of the research are surprising. It turned out that some of the large porn sites contain links to subpages spreading malware, i.e. malware.
The threat is hidden behind the advertisements. By clicking on some of them, the user is redirected to sites that install malicious viruses without his knowledge. This phenomenon even has its own name: "malvertising", derived from the English word "advertising", meaning advertising.
PornHub, xHamster , Tube8, YouJizz - ads placed on these four sites run the risk of infecting your computer with malware.
The largest percentage of unsafe sites have pornhub.com (12.7%), followed by xhamster.com (5%), tube8.com (3.8%) and youjizz.com (0.40%). As you can see, the risk with the two first mentioned is not so low.
The author of the study informs that other popular websites such as xvideos.com, livejasmin.com, redtube.com, xnxx.com, youporn.com and adultfriendfinder.com look completely safe for the user. But of course you can never be 100% sure.
