Tutorial on how to clip people from Gifs
|
all instructions for PhotoShop CS6 (if you use another program youll have to do some googling on how to do what i said in said program)
How to clip someone out of a gif !
selecting your gif/movie:
for starters static camera angles for the gif are almost a must, unless you intend a solid color background or something to that affect (havent tried solid color yet ,it just came to me while writing this).
A fairly contrasting background to the gif so you have less maual clipping work to do . manually clipping is fine for a few frames but when i see 10 frames of stuff i have to do myself i usually say fuck it and move to the next option or some sort of work around.
some problems can just be covered creatively for instance my recent blond chick from 2 broke girls gifs her (stage right) arm has some strange stuff going on so i covered it with the guy shes jacking off.
step one : separate the gif into individual pics
import the gif to photoshop if its a gif drag and drop somewhere NOT ON THE WORK AREA but the upper portion of the photoshop window, it will open it as a new file instead of dropping it onto whatever you have going on, or just file>open>yadda>yadd>yadda.
if its from a video you intend to make into a clipped gif google how to make a gif with photoshop
make sure the time-line is enabled in photoshop (google it, will probably be in instructions for making a gif as well)
select all frames (in the drop down menu in the top right of the time-line window, take note of whats here, you will use it allot if you get into gif editing)
now set frame delay to one second: frame delay is not in the menu you just used, but on the bottom of each individual frame, while selecting all, changing one will change all of them, be sure to note down the delay before changing it to one second, you’ll need it for the clipped pics after
now up to File>Export>Render to video>
top of the menu that pops up you chose a naming scheme and where its saving said pics, i usually make a folder for each new gif clip)
next is a drop down box , choose photoshop image sequence
format: what you want , i use png
starting at #1 digits 4
size will let you change the pics to larger on export ( i usually do that first thing in photoshop if its something i intend todo)
frame rate :custom and 1:fps
range probably all frames unless you have something else in mind , but i recommend doing frame edits in the photoshop program itself
alpha channel: none
3d quality: i left interactive (no idea what this does)
then hit render
and now all the frames from the gif are in the folder you made with numbers added to the filename so you know what frame it is
now i usually go back into photoshop and change the framerate back to its original and delete ALL the layers but 1 (usually the first one as its probably locked)
Step 2 : clipping
now comes the arduous task of clipping each pic individually..... SIKE
fire up your webbroser and goto remove.bg the free option is best for us pervs, it downsizes a bit, but ive usually blown the pic up a bit anyways!
now it does require you to drag and drop each pic onto the page individually, but thats not exactly difficult , it will queue them up one at a time , but will tell you to fuck off if you try to drop them all in at one time!
you will see how well the auto clipper has done with each frame.
At this point you will get an idea of what kind of extra clipping is needed to make it perfect or what needs to be covered creatively.
Save all the clipped png's hit download or drag and drop them to a window.
Open the drop down menu in the timeline again and turn off new layers visible in all frames
when you have them all drag them into the workspace of the origonal gif still open in photoshop
(there is probably an import pics as a timeline option somewhere I haven’t found that would make this much easier)
all of the pics wll need to be accepted individually , I just jam on the mouse button over the checkmark till they are all in
now delete that layer left over from before (may have to unlock it first)
Step 3 : Timeline fun
all of your layers will show up on the first frame making a crazy looking many armed creature
you will have to click frame one in the timeline then go through and turn off every layer but the one with the name with the 1, then click frame 2 and turn on the layer marked 2 .Annnd you can probably guess the next several steps.
Save your gif ! ( its in the make a gif tutorial)
SUPER TIP THAT I FELT LIKE AN IDIOT FOR NOT REALIZING SOONER
the human eye is awesome. Most makers of gifs forget this and will leave the default settings alone when editing or importing a gif. ive noticed that depending on the gif you can remove every other frame and then double the framerate and you cant usually notice it as long as the doubled framerate is still below 0.1, i tend to keep it around 0.07 depending on origonal framerate of course.
