Steampunk is a sub-genre of science fiction, usually set in the 19th century and Victorian era and utilizing an alternate history setting in which steam power is still widely used. The genre has prominent elements of either science fiction or fantasy and often features anachronistic technology or futuristic innovations as the Victorians may have envisioned them. Basically, think of the stories of Jules Verne and H. G. Wells and films like The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.
