The virgin was to be put to death; the verdict was unanimous. This would not, however, be a quick fix by the lady with the sword, but would be slow, agonising and humiliating - she would be crucified, in a place open to public view. She'd be hanged on the tall stump of tree where one of its branches formed the cross beam, by the stand of trees in the big field. It was public enough, although few if any were likely to pass by the spot, and had borne the bodies of several women, all naked, in the past.
In deference to her virginal purity, the usual stipulation of complete nakedness would not be enforced; instead she would be clothed in a pure white cotton sheet-dress appropriate to her highly-regarded status as a chaste young woman. She'd not show breasts, belly, bum or pussy to any casual spectator; her modesty and self-esteem would be preserved.
Taken out to the field early in the morning appointed, she was stripped of her usual clothing and underwear and given the white garment befitting her innocence. Then followed the long walk, barefoot and with wrists tied at back, across the field to the execution tree, the crude cross to which her body would be bound with strong ropes. On this simple frame she would hang, writhe, suffer indignity, pain and torment, as her captors looked on. On this device she would be crucified.
Head down, she walked slowly as directed, ever closer to that crucial destination, the desolate place where lay her fateful destiny. Arriving there, she ambled past, preferring to ignore the slender cut-down tree trunk and the spindly shaft that was athwart it. Stopping for several moments, she turned towards it, head still down. Gathering courage, she looked up, gazing intently at the simplicity of the thing. After some time, she advanced and dropped on her knees, gradually bending forward until head touched the ground, mind accepting the inevitable and necessary surrender to its cruel embrace. After what seemed an age to the onlookers, she rose up on her knees and put her face to the upright, kissing the pole on which she'd be raised from the earth.
Composed now, calm and self-assured, she stood up, stepped back and when the low platform was placed against the vertical, she mounted it and leant back against the upright. Hands were untied and then each arm was extended and wrist bound securely to the end of the horizontal beam. First the left foot, then the right, was wrapped in rope to fix both feet against the perpendicular.
She was aloft, fixed, hanging high, already suffering fear, pain, loneliness, desolation . . . she was crucified.
