Myriam Abbas, sometimes credited as Meriam Abbas (born 1970 [or 1972] in Baghdad, Iraq) is Iraqi-born German actress and dubber. Myriam Abbas has witnessed firsthand the corrupting rule of Saddam Hussein, grew up in Iraq and from the age of 12 in Germany. She completed her acting education at the Mozarteum in Salzburg between 1991 and 1994. Subsequently, she was at the Schloßparktheater Berlin, the Schauspielhaus Wien, the Volkstheater Wien (title role in Antigone von Sophocles), the Schauspielhaus Zurich and several times at the Munich Kammerspiele (e.g. in psychosis of Sarah Kane). In the 2005/06 season, the Burgtheater in Vienna engaged them for the world premiere of the piece We want the Messiah or the accelerated family of Franzobel. Meriam Abbas has also appeared in numerous film and television productions, e.g. in Nachtgestalten (1999) by Andreas Dresen or as fast as you can (2001) by Vivian Naefe. In 2005, she took on a role in Oday Rasheed's debut work Underexposure, the first Iraqi feature film after the fall of the Saddam regime and the start of the US occupation. She is known for Our River...Our Sky (2021), Night Shapes (1999) and Homeland (2011).
