sending a relation request

How do you send a relation request? Also, if you accept a request that someone sent you, does that automatically go both ways similar to facebook friend requests?

Go to that person's profile page and click on the link below their profile info that sas "send relation request".

Also, if you accept a request that someone sent you, does that automatically go both ways similar to facebook friend requests?
