How do I add a description?

OK, I created a few new folders lately and given them names that are meaningful to me--but I don't see how to add the useful tagline/description that older folders have. How do I do that, please? Thanks.

You get only one bite at that apple, unfortunately.

The way the Organizer (that part of the galleries that's divided into sections or left as Uncategorized) was set up, you can only add a description when you add a "folder." Once the "folder" has a name and galleries in it, the only things you can do are: change the logo, rename the folder or get rid of it altogether.

All I can suggest is, when you go to create a folder, have a description in mind at the same time. When I set mine up, I had the names, descriptions and logos (avatars?) ready to go. If you're keen on having descriptions to your current folders, the only option I can see is to re-create them and add those descriptions to the new 'versions' as you're doing so. Unfortunately it also means that you'll have to re-assign the galleries that were in the old ones to the new ones, as each folder gets its own number in the system.

That was extremely helpful, BZT! Do you (or anyone else out there) know if all this is still true? That is, is there still no way to change folder descriptions other than creating entirely new folders and then deleting the old ones?

When you are looking at your gallery, go up top to Edit Mode. I see it 2 ways because I can change your descriptions if I have to. But you should see Edit description in this mode. If not, click on Change Name. Click OK. Then you should see change description. Again my screen looks different than yours. So I am guessing once you change the Name (you can just click ok and not change the name), the description part will follow.

Thanks Longhairfish! But I think you are describing how to add or change a description to a gallery, and I (and the OP and BZT, I think) am inquiring about whether it is possible to change descriptions of gallery FOLDERS. When you're looking at someone's profile page, there's a link above the display of their five most recent galleries that says "see all galleries." If you click on that, you get a page where some of us have added various folders in which to organize our various galleries. It is easy to change the folder avatars and even their titles, and to delete the folder entirely, but it seems you only get a chance to write a folder description when you first create the folder. I've searched high and low, and can find no way to change the description. So I've begun the laborious task of creating all new folders, uploading new avatars for each one, writing new descriptions, moving all my old galleries, and deleting the old folders. I was just wondering if I had missed an easier way to do this, somehow. Interestingly enough, it seems that one cannot create a new folder without writing something in the description box - but once written, it appears permanent.

One can do that. Go here:

There's a link there called "Add New Folder", click it and you can make a new folder with only a name, no description needed.

Thanks Japavidols! I made all new folders without descriptions - which I prefer since the categories by which I organize my galleries sometimes change, and while I can change the folder avatars and names to reflect these changes, being stuck with old descriptions is extremely frustrating! On that same page, I also figured out how to move my galleries in bulk from one folder to another which is at least ten times faster than doing it one gallery at a time!
