Another look at uploader problem(s).

From the Rules sticky, as updated this month:
Admin wrote:--Limit to amount of images in a gallery (2009-10-02)

Even though our FAQ says otherwise, the amount of images in a gallery will be limited to 1000, which will make the galleries easier to browse.
Galleries vastly exceeding 1000 images, will be deleted

Considering the fact there is no limit on the number of galleries that a user may create, it probably isn't necessary to keep the per-gallery limit at such a high number. Either phenomenon could be said to be responsible for the image server disks filling up as often as they do, resulting in flength file error problems like the one currently ongoing.

While saying this, I don't discount the fact that new members joining at the rate of a few hundred a week also has an impact on available space.

Also, the number of flagged galleries adds yet another variable. These galleries may be blocked from members' access, but they remain on the disks, along with their thumbs, full-sized pictures and notations or references to both in the system database/s. That takes up space that could be used for content that doesn't violate the rules. Better, in my opinion, to treat any gallery that breaks the rules the same as if they were individual pictures that did so. Taking this approach could make more space available. If it comes to a question of what the moderators are able to do gallery-side, make whatever adjustments are necessary so they can remove flagged galleries.

Just a few thoughts on the matter. Take what you like and leave the rest.
