upload sequence

Postby CS164 on Thu Feb 25, 2010 1:02 pm

Hi.
How can i load more than 100 pics in normal sequence? Starting at first and ending with the last. Every time when unpacking zip file, starting at different pics, but never the first one.

CS164:

I know what you mean. I talked about it here (and here) most recently, and in other threads too, some of which are no doubt missing since the Forum swallowed a whole section during a fix attempt about a month ago.

I've suggested, advocated, insisted that they take this "cosmetic" hack off the display software and put things back the way the gods (and the sw developers) intended, but so far no results. I'm told the techs, the folks whose skills are adequate to these tasks, are subcontracted (hired in from outside) and if they stop in once in 4 or 6 weeks we're lucky. The Admin frankly admits he's got very little knowledge or skill in these areas, and my own skills are more on the user end, else I'd be able to say specifically what needs to be done. About two nights ago, I Google'd for the name of the display software -- never saw so many hits for Bulk Image Downloader in my life! No help there.

It's a pain in the ass. That's what it boils down to.

why are you not packing them in sequence?

and you can always use a multi-renamer. you can change all the names to sequential numbers and it sequences the date too.

The best I've found among the Windows freeware multi renamers is here: Bulk Rename Utility.

For KDE/Kubuntu Linux, nothing beats KRename. It will also run in Ubuntu GNOME, though you have to sack a lot more hard-disk space for the support libraries etc.

Mac OS X has FileWrangler, among many other freewares.

CS164, there are some whose habit of "Oh I've got 25 more pictures -- let me load down the database of the gallery side just that much more with six new galleries," prevents them from understanding why someone would, over a period of days, weeks or months, add pics of a particular sub/genre or theme to the same gallery. They just don't get us.

And I was just about to see how well my latest additions to my (500 picture total) Naked Erotica gallery were doing. Then I thought, "Better break out the metal detector and call for some bloodhounds -- otherwise you're damned unlikely to find any new ones in all that mess." Is it any wonder my usual cut-off number is 50?

I'll say it again: whatever the techs did to the gallery software to make it display new pix mixed in among the previous uploads it should be un-done and yesterday!!

was that a shot at me???? and my 24 photo galleries??? :P

and i know about what our software does and i do wish they would change it so all new photos are added to the end of the gallery...etc.

but there are also known problems with some zip software and how it organizes files ... winzip being the worst. you have to be extremely picky with the ordering when adding them to the zip.

and you have to realize a big part of how our software organizes is by original filename and the file date. they have to be specific. the gallery will load up the first time by the order you have them in the zip, regardless of filename and date.... but when you add to the gallery later, things get "screwy"

Seems like at least two of the other ones (7Zip and WinRAR Pro, both of which I use regularly -- the former for creating and the latter for adding and extracting) follow on the same pattern as WinZip. I've often had to re-compress a bunch of files to restore the intended order.

I thought about the nasty comment I made in my previous post. Then it occurred to me: if for every pic there's a random number generated to name it, the same being added to the database, likewise for every gallery, then eventually with a site as popular as ImageFap, some loss is bound to occur. I guess it's a toss-up between what gives the DB the greater strain: one member with 515 galleries (average whack of 59 images/gallery) or three dozen members with close to 1000 smaller galleries apiece.

Twenty-two galleries? That's all? Your standards must be much higher than mine!

And it is possible, because I remember it happening "elsewhere," that the gallery sw will "double-dip" and give the same random number to two or three pictures (or galleries). Given a choice between losing a pic & seeing it arbitrarily cross-wired with something completely different, I'll take the loss. Likely I can always upload it again, and on the second go around bet on not getting a duplicate RN.

i do have VERY high standards... but you misread my post. (i have 151 galleries) 80% have 24 photos (max number of photos on a single details gallery page) or less because of "lost" photos... i thought you might have been cracking on me :P

and i rarely use a stand alone zip anymore... i use the packing ability of FreeCommander which also has a multi-renaming option... among other things. its EXTREMELY useful :)
