How do you reorder images

Postby harley_guy_51 on Sat Feb 20, 2010 10:26 pm

I hate to ask such a newbie type question, but I seem to be unable to figure out how to reorder the images in my galleries. I click on "Reorder Images" and it brings up the 4way arrow and allows me to left click on any image and then move it anywhere in the gallery. But I can't figure out how to make that particular photo stay where I want it. No matter what I do it wants to keep moving around with my cursor. I've tried double-clicking, hitting the Escape key, hitting the Enter key, clicking on "I'm done reorderting images" but I can't get it unstuck from my cursor to the place where I want it to be.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks!

BTW, I did a search for "reorder", and it really didn't bring up anything useful. I've also tried finding some kind of "Help" files for this, but wasn't able to find those either.

Two things. I just tried it and it worked. I use Firefox. Now the 'other' thing. There are posts about other people having the same problem as you. The BAD thing is, I don't know if the problem has been resolved. Apparently it has been. But you will have to try yourself and see. Just make sure that when you go to change the order of the pictures that you are actually logged in. I know this sounds dumb, but once in a while you will be logged out for no apparent reason. Or maybe this just happens to me?

Anyway, click on the link below and see if what others have said might apply to you.

Also, there is another link within that post. So poke around and see what you can find.

Reordering is a slippery slope. Without setting a ceiling on the number of images one can upload to a gallery that's reasonable enough to re-arrange on the fly, or hacking the gallery software (at the techs' end, mind you, not ours or anyone linking to it remotely) so as to prevent any further additions as a member's prerogative, the chances are good that how it has worked (or not) up until now will continue to be how it will work in the future.

I still hold that the solution is to roll-back the gallery software to how it worked at the beginning: all new additions to galleries appearing as linked thumbnails towards the end of a given gallery, not insinuated at odd angles between previously posted pics. Take a look at my own Nude at Computers #4 to see where the newer method has left us. I don't even try to rearrange my N@C galleries because of the lack of limit and option I mentioned in my first paragraph.

Sometimes the old ways are best. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Thanks for the suggestions from both of you. I changed over to Firefox and was able to reorder my images in the gallery. It worked just as you would expect it to. Left Click/drag, unclick/drop.

It did not work with IE8. I am using Vista with my computer if that helps with why it might not work in IE8. I did not change any other settings when using Firefox.

Thanks for your help. I guess I'll jut have to use Firefox if I need to work on my galleries. Maybe it will even fix the problem other people are having with uploading images, which I have been unable to do for at least a week. I'm in the EST time zone. I don't mean to hijack this thread with another report of problems with uploading, but it's happening to me as well.

BTW, somewhere in reading about this issue someone suggested turning off firewalls or even maybe anti-virus software. At the point I had finished and was viewing my gallery again my Norton Anti-Virus software disconnected me from ImageFap with a warning that an attempt was made to attack my computer. This is not the first time this has happened while connected to ImageFap. I really don't know what the warning meant, but by way of advice, I personally would NEVER turn off my anti-virus software while connected to ANY porn site.

A Norton suite created a situation for my better-than-me-at-tech brother to wipe out a hard drive. Personally I don't trust the Symantec brand for anything anymore. Though I do miss watching SpeedDisk in Mac OS X do its thing. ;)

Something else I find curious about the new upload order "method." If you click on the link that brings up the tab or popup for selecting pics to get the posting (site or forum) code, the thumbnails appear in the order the pictures themselves were originally uploaded, from the beginning of the gallery to your latest addition. That tells me that the order shown on the ordinary thumbnail pages, regardless of view, is the result of a more-or-less "cosmetic" hack made to the display routines of the gallery software. If it can be changed, it can be changed back, is my next thought. And should be. Then they could either dispense with the re-order option or fine-tune it a little more to work regardless of browser.

I hope they'll consider it. I'm not counting on it, but Mann darft nicht ohne Hoffnung leben.

Reorder still does’nt work in my FireFox?
Is some one doing something to solve the problem?

Also - it would be much more easier if the file names - we all could see,
while moving those small previews.

Did you read my post from the 20th? Or better, did you understand what you read?

What I was trying to get across is, if the gallery software still showed pictures as intended, then a re-order feature that was, pretty much by nature, prone to work in Browser X but not Browsers W, Y, or Z, wouldn't be as necessary. Sure, it'd be a nice add-on, or a means of correcting a mis-ordered upload on the user's part, but if my N@C gallery was an illustration of nothing else, it showed point blank that this "cosmetic" hack isn't working for anyone with half a brain in their heads. The unreliable, testy, browser-specific (and you can't even nail it down to that -- version, build, OS, these all seem to have a part in whether it works in certain web browsers) re-ordering feature is like putting a band-aid on an eruption of melanoma. Talk about apologizing for a stupid idea in one feature with yet another feature!

Okay, off the soapbox. If you didn't get it, it can't be helped.
